Ketorolac tromethamine is an active compound of Acular. It is an anti-inflammatory drug which does not contain steroids. It acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, which are the main cause of pain and inflammation in the body. Prostaglandins are synthesized from Arachidonic acid in the presence of cyclooxygenase enzyme. Ketorolac acts on cyclooxygenase enzyme and block it. Hence prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins. It does not cause pupil constriction. It is used to treat the seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Ketorolac is also used to treat postoperative pain and inflammation.
